Pansy 3 is one of a series of paintings created by artist, Laurie Koss, for her 2017 solo art show, Pansy. She has dedicated this painting to her cousin’s daughter, Monique Napier, who passed away in 2019 after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
In her family’s words:
“We believe that Monique was one of those enlightened souls. Her positive attitude and infectious laugh affected everyone, making this world a brighter place. She was taken from us far too soon at the age of 39 years but lived her short life to the fullest. She had a passion for adventure, sports, travel and photography. Monique loved her family and was blessed with a loving husband and two beautiful children. Family and friends were always high priorities for Monique.
She was a brave warrior, battling brain cancer for six years. During this time, she continued working as a professional photographer. She volunteered her talent and skills to create memories for families with special needs children. She got involved with the brain cancer society through starting an online support group. She also completed the two-day “Ride to Conquer Cancer” in 2014.
Monique was forever grateful for the love and support of family, extended family, friends and the Squamish community for their generosity through multiple fundraisers, the Go Fund Me for Mo, the West Coast Railway Heritage Park’s “High Tea,” the train meals, backyard concerts, flowers, massages, medical home visits, and frequent help and visits from family and friends. It is all the above and more that gave her the encouragement and strength to keep fighting this disease. Monique’s mantra was ‘LIVE, LOVE, LAUGH.'”
All proceeds from the sale of these limited edition prints are donated to help fund brain cancer research under Dr. Brian Thiessen at the BC Cancer Agency.
